Plot Synopsis

The story begins with the discovery of a decomposed body in an apartment in Kokubunji, Tokyo. Authorities initially suspect a case of kodokushi, or "lonely death," where an individual passes away unnoticed for an extended period. However, Detective Ayano begins to doubt this conclusion after observing inconsistencies at the scene, specifically regarding the behavior of the domestic cats found with the body. The investigation eventually identifies the deceased as 36-year-old Yoko Suzuki, leading to a deeper exploration of her life and circumstances.
