Background

The drama is based on the novel of the same name written by Misumi Kubo, which was published by Shueisha on March 29, 2017. The screenplay for the television adaptation was written by Sayaka Kuwamura, with direction by Naoko Komuro.

Plot

The story follows Ichiharu Sudo, a dedicated furniture craftsman who struggles to create work that meets his own high standards, leading to a professional slump. His life intersects with Sakurako Motohashi, an employee at an advertising firm who finds romantic relationships challenging. Both characters harbor deep emotional wounds: Ichiharu is haunted by the death of a significant person in his life, which manifests in a recurring loss of voice every December. Meanwhile, Sakurako deals with the aftermath of her father's bankruptcy and the burden of supporting her family. As they begin to date, they navigate their respective pasts and personal struggles.
