Voice of Silence (2020 Film)

Voice of Silence (Korean: 소리도 없이; RR: Sorido Eobsi) is a 2020 South Korean crime drama film written and directed by Hong Ui-jung. The film explores the lives of two men who work for a criminal organization, tasked with cleaning up crime scenes and disposing of bodies.

Plot

Tae-in (played by Yoo Ah-in) and Chang-bok (played by Yoo Jae-myung) are professional cleaners for a local criminal syndicate. Their routine is disrupted when they are tasked with looking after an 11-year-old girl named Cho-hee (Moon Seung-a) who has been kidnapped. When their client, Yong-seok, is found dead, the two men are left in an unexpected and precarious situation involving the child.

Production

The film was written and directed by Hong Ui-jung. Principal photography for the project began on July 29, 2019, and concluded on October 31, 2019. The film was distributed by Acemaker Movie Works.

Reception and Awards

Voice of Silence received critical recognition for its direction and performances. At the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2021, Hong Ui-jung received the award for Best Director, and Yoo Ah-in was awarded Best Actor. Additionally, at the 41st Blue Dragon Film Awards in 2021, Yoo Ah-in won Best Actor, and Hong Ui-jung was honored with the Best New Director award.
