Utsubokazura no Yume

Utsubokazura no Yume (Japanese: ウツボカズラの夢), also known as The Dream of Nepenthes, is a Japanese television suspense drama series that aired in 2017. The series was broadcast on the Fuji TV and Tokai TV network.

Background and Production

The drama is based on the novel Utsubokazura no Yume written by Asa Nonami. The source material was originally serialized in the monthly magazine Shousetsu Suiri between June 2006 and September 2007. The television adaptation consists of eight episodes and was directed by Yoshikazu Kaneko, Katsumi Ishikawa, and Daisuke Ajiki, with screenwriting by Kiyomi Fujii and Yukari Nakamura.

The series occupied the Saturday 23:40 time slot on Fuji TV and Tokai TV. It premiered on August 5, 2017, and concluded on September 30, 2017.

Plot

The story follows Mifuyu Saito, a high school student who has spent much of her youth caring for her chronically ill mother and managing household responsibilities. Following her mother's death, her father brings his girlfriend into their home and forces Mifuyu to leave. Seeking refuge, she moves in with her mother's cousin, who resides in an affluent area of Tokyo.
