Twenty-Four Eyes (2013 TV Movie)

Twenty-Four Eyes (Japanese: 二十四の瞳, Hepburn: Nijushi no Hitomi) is a 2013 Japanese television movie broadcast by TV Asahi. The production is an adaptation of the 1952 novel of the same name written by Sakae Tsuboi.

Plot

The story follows Hisako Ohishi, portrayed by Nao Matsushita, a teacher who begins her career at an elementary school on a remote island. She is assigned to teach a class of 12 students. As the narrative progresses, the bond between the teacher and her pupils deepens, but their lives are eventually disrupted by the onset of war.

Production

The film was directed by Naomi Tamura, with a screenplay written by Yukari Tatsui. It aired on August 4, 2013, on the TV Asahi network, with a runtime of 130 minutes. The source material, Sakae Tsuboi's 1952 novel, is a well-known work in Japanese literature that examines the impact of militarism and conflict on rural education and childhood.
