Transparent Cradle
Transparent Cradle, known in Japan as Tomei na Yurikago, is a Japanese television drama series that aired on NHK from July 20 to September 21, 2018. The series consists of 10 episodes and was broadcast in the Friday 22:00 time slot.
Background and Production
The drama is based on the manga series Tomei na Yurikago: Sanfujinka Iin Kangoshi Minarai Nikki, written and illustrated by Bakka Okita. The manga was first published in 2015 in the Japanese magazine Kiss Plus. The television adaptation was directed by Takeshi Shibata and Naoki Murahashi, with a screenplay by Naoko Adachi.
Plot
Set in the summer of 1997, the story follows Aoi Aota, a 17-year-old girl who begins working as an apprentice nurse at a local maternity hospital. Throughout her tenure, Aoi encounters various patients and experiences the complexities of life and death within the medical facility. Her journey is marked by her unique sensitivity and her efforts to connect with the pregnant women under the hospital's care, despite concerns from her mother, Fumika, regarding her communication skills.
