The Witch's Diner (South Korean Television Series)

The Witch's Diner (Korean: 마녀식당으로 오세요) is a South Korean fantasy drama series that premiered in 2021. The series is based on the novel Manyeosikdangeuro Oseyo by Goo Sang-Hee, which was published by Dasan Books in 2016. The television adaptation was directed by So Jae-Hyun and Lee Soo-Hyun.

Plot

The story follows Jung Jin, a 28-year-old woman who faces significant personal setbacks, including losing her job and being abandoned by her boyfriend. After an unsuccessful attempt to run a restaurant with her mother, she is left to manage the business alone. Her life changes when she encounters Jo Hee-Ra, a mysterious witch who proposes a partnership. Jo Hee-Ra takes over the restaurant to serve magical food that grants the deepest wishes of its customers. However, every wish comes with a price, as customers must sacrifice something of value to the witch in exchange for their desires. As Jung Jin begins working with Jo Hee-Ra, the restaurant gains popularity, and she experiences the supernatural consequences of the witch's culinary craft.

  • Song Ji-Hyo as Jo Hee-Ra, the enigmatic witch who runs the restaurant.
  • Nam Ji-Hyun as Jung Jin, the restaurant's manager who navigates the supernatural demands of the business.
  • Chae Jong-Hyeop as Lee Gil-Yong, a young man who becomes involved with the restaurant.

Production and Release

The series consists of eight episodes. It was initially released on the streaming platform TVING from July 16 to August 13, 2021. It later aired on the cable network tvN from January 5 to January 19, 2022, occupying the Wednesday and Thursday 22:30 time slot.
