The Preparation (Korean: 채비; RR: Chaebi) is a 2017 South Korean drama film written and directed by Cho Young-Jun. The film explores the emotional journey of a mother facing a terminal illness as she attempts to prepare her adult son, who has a mental disability, to live independently.
Plot
Ae-Soon (played by Ko Du-Shim) is a devoted mother who receives a terminal cancer diagnosis. Recognizing that her time is limited, she begins the difficult process of preparing for her departure. Her primary concern is her adult son, In-Kyoo (played by Kim Sung-Kyun), who lives with a mental disability. The narrative follows their efforts to navigate the transition toward In-Kyoo's independence.
Production
The film's production began with a script reading and a traditional gosa ceremony on April 7, 2017. Principal photography commenced on April 10, 2017, in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, and concluded on June 7, 2017. The film was distributed by Opus Pictures and released in South Korea on November 9, 2017.
