The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window (Japanese: さんかく窓の外側は夜, Romaji: Sankaku Mado no Sotogawa wa Yoru) is a 2021 Japanese supernatural mystery film directed by Yukihiro Morigaki. The film is an adaptation of the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Tomoko Yamashita, which began serialization in Monthly Magazine BE×BOY in April 2013.

Plot

The story follows Kosuke Mikado, a bookstore employee who has been haunted by the ability to see ghosts since childhood. His life changes when he encounters Rihito Hiyakawa, a powerful exorcist who claims that Mikado's presence allows him to see the spirit world more clearly. The two form a professional partnership to conduct exorcisms. Their work leads them to assist a detective investigating a series of murders, during which they discover a cursed corpse.

Production

The film was directed by Yukihiro Morigaki with a screenplay by Tomoko Aizawa. Principal photography took place between January 15, 2020, and mid-February 2020. Although originally scheduled for release on October 30, 2020, the premiere was postponed to January 22, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film's theme song, "Kuraku Kuroku," was performed by the rock group Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni.
