The Good Father (2022 Film)

The Good Father, originally titled in Japanese as Konoko wa Jaaku (This Child Is Evil), is a 2022 Japanese psychological thriller film written and directed by Sho Kataoka. The film premiered in Japan on September 1, 2022, and was distributed by Happinet Phantom Studios.

Plot

The story centers on the Kubo family, whose lives were irrevocably altered by a severe car accident five years prior. The family, consisting of father Shiro, mother Mayuko, and daughters Hana and Runa, suffered various injuries during the incident. Mayuko was left in a vegetative state, Shiro sustained a leg injury, Runa suffered severe facial burns, and Hana experienced deep psychological trauma.

Years later, Shiro announces that Mayuko has awakened from her vegetative state and brings her home. While Hana is initially relieved to have her mother back, she soon begins to experience a sense of unease regarding her mother's behavior. Simultaneously, Hana forms a connection with a high school student named Jun Yotsui, who is searching for answers regarding his own mother's mental health struggles.
