The Defects

The Defects is a South Korean television drama series that aired on the ENA network in 2025. The series, which consists of eight episodes, was broadcast on Mondays and Tuesdays at 22:00. It premiered on July 21, 2025, and concluded its run on August 12, 2025. The drama is based on the webcomic Ayishopping, written by Eom Se-Yoon and illustrated by Ryu Ga-Myeong, which was originally published on the Kakao platform between December 2016 and January 2018.

Production and Broadcast

The series was directed by Oh Ki-Hwan, with the screenplay written by An So-Jung. The Defects occupied the Monday and Tuesday 22:00 time slot on ENA, following the conclusion of Salon de Holmes. It was succeeded in the same time slot by My Troublesome Star on August 18, 2025.

Plot

The narrative centers on Kim Se-Hee (played by Yum Jung-Ah), a prominent hospital director and charity foundation operator. While maintaining a public image of respectability, she secretly manages an illegal adoption organization alongside Jung Hyeon (Kim Jin-Young). Driven by a belief in genetic superiority, the organization facilitates adoptions but offers a "refund" period if a child fails to meet the expectations of the adoptive parents. Children returned under this system are eliminated by the organization to conceal their activities. Kim Ah-Hyun (Won Jin-A), a survivor of this process, emerges as a leader for other survivors, seeking survival and retribution against Kim Se-Hee.
