Oh! Father (2014 Film)

Oh! Father (Japanese: オー!ファーザー) is a 2014 Japanese film directed by Michihito Fujii. The movie is a blend of comedy and suspense, based on the novel of the same name written by Kotaro Isaka, which was originally published by Shinchosha in March 2010.

Plot

The story follows Yukio, a high school student living an unconventional life with his mother and four distinct fathers. Due to his mother's complex romantic history, all four men live under the same roof. Each father contributes a unique perspective to Yukio's upbringing:

• Satoru (Shiro Sano): A professor who oversees Yukio's academic studies.
• Taka (Masahiko Kawahara): A gambler known for his strong intuition.
• Mamoru (Jun Murakami): A former club host who provides advice on relationships.
• Isao (Daisuke Miyagawa): A middle school physical education teacher with an interest in mixed martial arts.

Yukio's life takes a turn when he witnesses a theft and becomes entangled in a dangerous situation. His four fathers must work together to protect him. Meanwhile, his classmate Taeko, played by Shiori Kutsuna, claims to be his girlfriend.

Production

The film was produced by Kazuyoshi Okuyama and distributed by Warner Bros. Japan. Principal photography commenced on May 20, 2013, in the suburbs of Tokyo. The film had its world premiere at the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival, held from October 17 to 25, 2013, before its general release in Japan on May 24, 2014.
