Nikkan Sports Film Awards
The Nikkan Sports Film Awards (日刊スポーツ映画大賞) is an annual film awards ceremony presented by the Japanese newspaper Nikkan Sports. Established in 1987, the awards recognize excellence in both domestic Japanese cinema and international film releases.

Ceremony and Categories
The awards ceremony is typically held in December each year. The categories cover standard industry honors, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and various supporting roles. Additionally, the event features the Yujiro Ishihara Award, named in honor of the late Japanese actor and singer Yujiro Ishihara, which recognizes significant contributions to the film industry.
In 2007, marking the 20th anniversary of the event, the organizers introduced "Fan Awards" for both Japanese and foreign films, allowing the public to participate in the recognition process.
Selection Process
The awards are determined by the editorial staff of Nikkan Sports, reflecting the publication's perspective on the year's most notable cinematic achievements. The ceremony serves as one of the prominent end-of-year film events in Japan, often highlighting films that have performed well both critically and commercially within the domestic market.
