The television series is based on the manga series titled Kodoku no Gourmet, authored by Masayuki Qusumi and illustrated by Jiro Taniguchi. The original comic was first published between 1994 and 1996 in Monthly PANJA magazine. The second season was directed by Kenji Mizoguchi, with screenplays contributed by Yoshihiro Taguchi and Yoriko Kodama.
