Joshi-teki Seikatsu

Joshi-teki Seikatsu (Japanese: 女子的生活), known internationally as Life As a Girl, is a Japanese television drama series that aired on NHK in early 2018. The four-episode series explores the life of a transgender woman living in an urban environment.

Plot

The story follows Miki Ogawa, portrayed by Jun Shison, a transgender woman who moves from the countryside to the city to pursue a life that aligns with her gender identity. Miki works at a fashion mail-order company. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters Tadaomi Goto, an acquaintance from her past. Despite his initial confusion regarding her appearance and identity, the two eventually find themselves living together.

Production

The drama is based on the novel Joshi-teki Seikatsu by Tsukasa Sakaki, which was published by Shinchosha in August 2016. The television adaptation was directed by Shinzo Nitta and Ryohei Nakano, with a screenplay written by Riko Sakaguchi. The series premiered on January 5, 2018, and concluded on January 26, 2018, airing in the Friday 22:00 time slot on NHK.
