If You Were Me 2 (2006)

If You Were Me 2 (Korean: 다섯개의 시선; RR: Daseot gae ui shiseon) is a 2006 South Korean omnibus film. The project consists of five short films, each directed by a different filmmaker, intended to explore various social issues and human rights concerns within contemporary South Korean society. It is the second installment in the If You Were Me series, an initiative supported by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea.

Segments

The film is composed of the following five segments:

  • Seaside Flower (dir. Park Kyung-Hee): Focuses on a student with Down syndrome who faces social prejudice and bullying at school.
  • Hey, Man~ (dir. Ryoo Seung-Wan): Examines various forms of discrimination, including sexism, racism, and homophobia, through the perspective of a character obsessed with traditional notions of masculinity.
  • A Boy with the Knapsack (dir. Jung Ji-Woo): Follows the experiences of North Korean refugees, highlighting their struggles with social isolation and communication.
  • Someone Grateful (dir. Jang Jin): A narrative set during a period of political unrest, depicting an interaction between a student activist and a police officer.
  • Jongno, Winter (dir. Kim Dong-Won): A documentary-style segment investigating the death of a Chinese-Korean man who froze to death on the streets of Seoul after being unable to find help.

Production

The film was released in South Korea on January 13, 2006, with a total runtime of 112 minutes. The project involved multiple directors, including Jung Ji-Woo, Jang Jin, Kim Dong-Won, Park Kyung-Hee, and Ryoo Seung-Wan, with screenplays by Kim Yong-Hwa and No Hye-Yeong.
