Hokaben (2008 TV Series)

Hokaben (Japanese: ホカベン) is a Japanese television legal drama series that aired on NTV from April 16 to June 18, 2008. The series consists of 10 episodes and explores the intersection of idealism and the practical realities of the legal profession.

Plot

The story follows Akari Domoto, played by Aya Ueto, a passionate rookie attorney who enters the legal field with the idealistic goal of using the law to protect the vulnerable. She is assigned to the pro bono department of a large law firm, where she works under the supervision of Tadashi Sugisaki, portrayed by Kazuki Kitamura. Unlike Akari, Sugisaki is a cynical, experienced lawyer who has become disillusioned with the limitations of the legal system. The series documents their professional relationship as they handle various cases, forcing Akari to confront the harsh realities of the law while challenging Sugisaki's detached perspective.

Production and Cast

The series was directed by Noriyoshi Sakuma and Kenji Ikeda. The screenplay was developed by a team including Takehiko Hata, Hideya Hamada, and Kumiko Aso, based on the original novel by Hiroyuki Nakajima. The main cast includes:
