Hei no Naka no Biyoshitsu

Hei no Naka no Biyoshitsu (Beauty Salon in Prison) is a Japanese television drama series broadcast by WOWOW. The series, which consists of seven episodes, aired from August 22 to October 3, 2025, in a Friday 23:00 time slot. The production is directed by Kana Matsumoto and is based on the novel of the same name by Mina Sakurai, published by Futabasha on September 12, 2018.

Plot

The story centers on Haru Komatsubara, an inmate at a women's prison who serves as the facility's only hairdresser. Haru, who is serving time for a serious crime, provides haircuts to visitors from the outside world. Through these interactions, she listens to the personal struggles and thoughts of her customers. As she navigates her daily life in prison, Haru frequently contemplates the nature of atonement and whether her service can truly provide redemption upon her eventual release. Her journey takes a personal turn when her older sister, Natsu Komatsubara, visits the salon.
