Heart Surgeons (South Korean TV Series)

Heart Surgeons (Korean: 흉부외과: 심장을 훔친 의사들; RR: Hyoongboowegwa: Simjangeul Hoomchin Uisadeul) is a South Korean medical drama series that aired on SBS from September 27 to November 15, 2018. The series consists of 32 episodes, broadcast on Wednesday and Thursday nights at 22:00, with two 35-minute episodes airing per day.

Plot

The story follows Park Tae-Soo (played by Ko Soo), a thoracic surgery fellow who is driven by the desperate need to save his mother, who requires a heart transplant. His professional life is complicated by his relationship with a powerful professor of thoracic surgery who holds significant authority over his career. The narrative also features a woman who, after surviving a near-death experience, decides to pursue a career as a thoracic surgery resident.

Production

The series was directed by Jo Young-Gwang and written by the duo Choi Soo-Jin and Choi Chang-Hwan. This project marked a reunion for director Jo Young-Gwang and screenwriter Choi Soo-Jin, who previously collaborated on the 2017 SBS drama Defendant. The first script reading for the series was held in early August 2018. Due to the Chuseok holiday, the premiere consisted of episodes 1 through 4, which aired on September 27, 2018.
