Goodbye Earth (South Korean TV Series)

Goodbye Earth (Korean: 종말의 바보; RR: Jongmalui Babo) is a South Korean television series released on Netflix on April 26, 2024. The drama is directed by Kim Jin-Min and written by Jung Sung-Joo. It is based on the 2006 novel Shumatsu no Fool by Japanese author Kotaro Isaka.

Plot

The narrative follows the lives of various individuals in South Korea during the final 200 days before a catastrophic asteroid impact is expected to destroy the planet. As society grapples with the impending apocalypse, the story focuses on how people choose to spend their remaining time.

Jin Se-Kyung (Ahn Eun-Jin), a former middle-school teacher, shifts her focus to volunteering at a child and youth division in city hall, attempting to protect children amidst the chaos. Her partner, Ha Yun-Sang (Yoo Ah-In), a biotechnology researcher based in the United States, returns to South Korea to be with her. Other central characters include Woo Sung-Jae (Jeon Sung-Woo), an assistant priest who assumes responsibility for his parishioners after his superior flees, and Kang In-A (Kim Yoon-Hye), a combat support battalion commander tasked with maintaining security and logistics in the devastated city of Woongchun.

Production

The series consists of 12 episodes. It draws its source material from Kotaro Isaka's novel Shumatsu no Fool, which was originally published by Shueisha on March 24, 2006.
