Plot Synopsis

Set in the late Meiji period in Hokkaido, Japan, the story follows Saichi Sugimoto, a Russo-Japanese War veteran nicknamed 'Immortal Sugimoto.' Seeking to raise money for a personal endeavor, he engages in gold panning in Hokkaido. During his travels, he learns of a hidden fortune of gold nuggets belonging to the indigenous Ainu people, which was stolen by an individual known as Noppera-bo.

Before his capture, Noppera-bo allegedly concealed the gold and tattooed the secret location across the bodies of twenty-four different prisoners, each carrying a fragment of the puzzle. After escaping prison alongside these inmates, the search for the hidden gold becomes a fierce race involving multiple factions. Sugimoto eventually forms an alliance with Asirpa, an Ainu girl whose father was killed by the gold thief, uniting them in their pursuit despite having distinct underlying motivations.
