Fumi Nikaido

Fumi Nikaido (二階堂ふみ) is a Japanese actress born on September 21, 1994, in Naha City, Okinawa, Japan. Standing 156 cm tall with blood type O, she has built a prominent career in Japanese film and television since her debut in the late 2000s.

Career and Major Film Roles

Nikaido gained international recognition early in her career. At the 68th Venice Film Festival held in 2011, she received the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best New Young Actor or Actress for her performance in the film Himizu (2012), sharing the recognition with her co-star Shota Sometani. Following this international acclaim, she received the Rookie of the Year award at the 36th Japan Academy Prize on March 8, 2013.

Over the years, Nikaido has maintained an active presence in Japanese cinema, appearing in diverse film projects such as Why Don't You Play in Hell? (2013), My Man (2014), River's Edge (2018), Fly Me To The Saitama (2019), and The Moon (2023).

Television Appearances

In addition to her film work, Nikaido has starred in numerous Japanese television dramas and serials. Her television credits include roles in Woman: My Life for My Children (NTV, 2013), A Restaurant With Many Problems (Fuji TV, 2015), the NHK television series Yell (2020), Promise Cinderella (TBS, 2021), and the multi-season drama Vivant (TBS, 2023–2026).
