Fukushima 50 is a 2020 Japanese drama film directed by Setsuro Wakamatsu. The film dramatizes the events surrounding the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, specifically focusing on the emergency response efforts during the critical five-day period from March 11 to March 15, 2011, following the Great East Japan Earthquake and the subsequent tsunami.

Background and Production
The film is based on the non-fiction book Shi no Fuchi o Mita Otoko: Yoshida Masao to Fukushima Daiichi Genpatsu no 500-nichi (The Man Who Saw the Edge of Death: Masao Yoshida and the 500 Days at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant) by Ryusho Kadota, published in 2012. The screenplay was written by Youichi Maekawa. Principal photography for the film began in late November 2018 and concluded in late January 2019.
Plot
The narrative centers on the personnel at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant as they confront the catastrophic failure of the facility's cooling systems caused by the tsunami. The story highlights the leadership of plant manager Masao Yoshida, played by Ken Watanabe, and the actions of shift supervisor Toshio Izaki, portrayed by Koichi Sato.
