Failan (2001 Film)
Failan (Korean: 파이란) is a 2001 South Korean drama film directed by Song Hae-sung. The film is based on the novel Love Letter by Japanese author Jiro Asada. It stars Choi Min-sik as Kang-jae and Cecilia Cheung as the titular character, Failan.

Plot
The story follows Kang-jae, a low-level, struggling gangster living in Incheon. His life is stagnant, defined by his minor role in a criminal organization and his frequent visits to an arcade. His situation changes when he enters into a marriage of convenience with a Chinese immigrant named Failan to help her secure residency in South Korea. The two never meet, and Kang-jae eventually forgets about the arrangement. Years later, he receives news of her death and a heartfelt letter expressing gratitude for his kindness, which forces him to confront his own empty life.

Production
The film was directed by Song Hae-sung and features a screenplay written by Song Hae-sung, Kim Hae-gon, and Ahn Sang-hoon. Principal photography for the production took place in Incheon, South Korea. The film was released on April 28, 2001, with a runtime of 115 minutes.
