Doctor John
Doctor John (Korean: 의사 요한; RR: Uisa Yohan) is a South Korean television series that aired on SBS from July 19 to September 7, 2019. The medical drama consists of 32 episodes and was broadcast in the Friday and Saturday 22:00 time slot. The series was directed by Jo Soo-Won and written by Kim Ji-Woon.
Background and Production
The series is based on the novel Kami no Te (Hand of God) by Japanese author Yo Kusakabe, which was published by NHK Publishing in May 2010. During its development, the drama was known by working titles including Doctor Room and Tongjeunguisa Cha Yo Han (Pain Doctor Cha Yo-Han). The first script reading for the production took place in March 2019 at the SBS Ilsan Production Center in Tanhyun, South Korea.
Plot
The story centers on Cha Yo-Han (played by Ji Sung), a brilliant but arrogant anesthesiologist, and Kang Shi-Young (played by Lee Se-Young), a resident in the same department. The narrative follows their work in a hospital setting as they treat patients suffering from mysterious acute or chronic pain, attempting to diagnose the underlying causes of their conditions.
