Chimudondon

Chimudondon is a Japanese television drama series produced by NHK. It is recognized as the 106th entry in the network's long-running asadora (morning drama) series. The show aired from April 11 to September 30, 2022, occupying the Monday through Saturday 8:00 AM time slot, succeeding the series Come Come Everybody.

Plot Synopsis

The story centers on Nobuko Higa, played by Yuina Kuroshima, who grows up in Okinawa with her three siblings. Following the sudden death of her father, the family faces significant hardships, with her mother working diligently to support the children. Nobuko develops a deep passion for cooking, which is further ignited after a memorable experience at a restaurant where she discovers Western cuisine.

Upon graduating from high school, Nobuko moves to Tokyo to pursue her dream of becoming a professional Western-style chef. As she navigates the challenges of an apprenticeship at a renowned restaurant, she encounters various individuals who shape her personal and professional life. Throughout her journey, she aspires to eventually open a restaurant that serves Okinawan cuisine in Tokyo.

Production

Production for the series commenced in the autumn of 2021. The drama features a large ensemble cast and was directed by a team including Takafumi Kimura, Takehiro Shoen, Ryohei Nakano, Yoji Tanaka, and Hideki Terasaki. The screenplay was written by Daisuke Habara.
