Call Boy (2018 Film)

Call Boy (Japanese: Shonen) is a 2018 Japanese drama film directed by Daisuke Miura. The screenplay, also written by Miura, is based on the 2001 novel Shonen by author Ira Ishida.

Plot

The story follows Ryo Morinaka, a university student who works part-time at a bar. Feeling disillusioned and bored with his mundane daily life, his perspective shifts after his friend Shinya Tajima introduces him to Shizuka Mido, the owner of a members-only host club. Ryo begins working for Mido, eventually finding a sense of purpose as he navigates his new role fulfilling the desires of his clients.

Production

The film is an adaptation of Ira Ishida's novel, which was originally published by Shueisha on July 5, 2001. Lead actor Tori Matsuzaka, who portrays Ryo Morinaka, previously performed in a stage adaptation of the same source material between August and September 2016.
