Big Deal (2025 South Korean Film)

Big Deal (Korean: 소주전쟁; RR: Sojujeonjaeng, literal title Soju War) is a South Korean drama film released on May 30, 2025. The film is set against the backdrop of the 1997 Asian financial crisis, focusing on the struggle of a local soju manufacturer facing bankruptcy.

Plot

The story takes place in 1997, a period of extreme economic instability in South Korea. Gukbo Soju, a company renowned for its signature product, faces potential collapse. Choi In-Beom (Lee Je-Hoon), an employee at a global investment firm, identifies the company as a target for acquisition. Meanwhile, Pyo Jong-Rok (Yu Hae-Jin), the finance director at Gukbo Soju, attempts to save the business he has dedicated his career to.

Production

The film was produced by Lee Yeon-Hwa and Kim Woo-Seong, with a screenplay written by Choi Yoon-Jin. Principal photography for the project commenced in April 2023. During its development phase, the film was known by the working title Moral Hazard.
