Aya Ueto

Aya Ueto (born September 14, 1985) is a Japanese actress and performer. Born in Tokyo, Japan, she has maintained a prolific career in the Japanese entertainment industry, appearing in numerous television series, feature films, and television movies since the late 1990s.

Career Highlights

Ueto gained significant recognition for her lead role in the 2003 action film Azumi, directed by Ryuhei Kitamura. Her performance in the film earned her the "Rookie of the Year" and "Most Popular Actor" awards at the 27th Japan Academy Prize in 2004. She reprised the title role in the 2005 sequel, Azumi 2: Death or Love.

Throughout her career, Ueto has appeared in a wide variety of television dramas. Notable roles include Hana Hanzawa in the popular TBS series Naoki Hanzawa (2013, 2020) and Sawa Sasamoto in the drama Hirugao: Love Affairs in the Afternoon (2014), the latter of which was also adapted into a feature film in 2017. Her filmography also includes roles in Thermae Romae (2012) and its 2014 sequel, as well as Shylock's Children (2023).
